Musical Acoustics Demonstrations
3 Different Instrument Sounds
Instructions
The first sound file contains three tones, each from a different
instrument. What are the three instruments? What aspects of
the sounds are the same for all three tones? Can this be observed
in the spectrum analyzier display? What aspects of the sounds are
different? Can these be observed in the spectrum analyzer display?
The second sound file is simply a reversed copy of the original, so
that it begins with the end of the last note in the original, and ends
with the beginning of the first note. What instrument(s) sound
pretty the same, and which sound different? What aspect of the
sound might be responsible for this difference?
