Three Different Singers
Instructions
Listen first to Janet Baker and Monserrat Caballe sing the opening of Caro Mio Ben, by Giordano, and look
at the sounds in spectrogram view. These singers both have
accompaniment. How can you pick out the partials the correspond
to the singer's voice and distinguish them from the
accompaniment? What performance related aspects of the voices can
you observe in the spectrogram?
Next, look and listen to the amateur. What performance-related
aspects of this voice can be observed in the spectrogram, and how does
it differ from the trained voices?
