During the time of the Civil Rights Movement and The Vietnam War, blues music reflected these events. During this time, in the late 60’s, protests of the Vietnam war began at various universities across the United States. These protests eventually became increasingly serious and more violent.
John Fogerty from Creedance Clearwater Revival penned anti-war songs such as “Fortunate Son,” reflecting American fear of being drafted into the reviled Vietnam War.
Woodstock ( a music festival) symbolized the harmony of folks who were against the Vietnam War. The music performed at Woodstock also reflected the “anti-authoritarian” views of the young folks of the time.
“The 1960's were a time of revolution. Young people were breaking out of the molds that were cast by their parent's era. This revolution of the Baby Boomer generation found that one effective outlet for their ideas was music.” from Welcome to Woodstock, retrieved July 24th, 2008
