The McGurk Effect is an interesting speech phenomenon which demonstrates how important both seeing and hearing are to the brain.It shows how we combine visual speech into what we hear.It was first discovered by Harry McGurk in 1976.
In this project I will attempt to answer "To What extent does the McGurk Effect Work?"
Speech is an important part of daily communication and this is why I believe it is important to understand as much about it as possible. The McGurk Effect is just one of the many quirks that you can find within speech and other types of communication.
For this experiment I will conduct my own McGurk Effect and see how effective it is. After I conduct the original experiment I also plan to alter the consonant combinations and see what effect that has on the experimenters perception of what he or she see's and hears. Also in this experiment I will attempt to use two different genders for the video. One gender will mouth the syllable and the other will say the syllable. According to studies the McGurk Effect should work when the audio and visual aspects are from different genders.
