The thespians at Cain Park in Cleveland Heights have a splendid little show that puts our race toward the millennium into perspective. It's the musical revue Tintypes, and it's quite charming. Director-choreographer Eric Van Barrs crafted a fast-paced show with a well-chosen cast. (Of particular mention) Brian Marshall, a junior at Baldwin-Wallace College's Conservatory of Music, brought a maturity to the role that speaks well of his training by Cain Park artistic director Victoria Bussert, who heads the college's musical theater program with Larry Hartzell, the show's music director. Hartzell at the piano and percussionist Kirk Puterbaugh got a real workout, playing everything from Scott Joplin ragtime to America the Beautiful. --AKRON BEACON JOURNAL July 29, 1998
The cast is made up of versitile singers-dancers who charge through a couple of hours so energetically that they must lose 10 pounds a show. But none ever reveals any sign or flagging and by the time they sing the sunny final number, "Smiles," chances are you will crack a grin, too. --THE SUN PRESS July 30, 1998
