Go to the Icon Palette and select the SPEEDY ENTRY ICON. That is the icon that looks like (you guessed it) an eighth note with cartoon speed tracks (third row, middle column).

Once the SPEEDY ENTRY ICON is activated use should click on the staff on which you wish to enter notes. When you do this a box appears around that measure and slightly enlarges it. This is known as the SPEEDY ENTRY TOOL.

Now you must do two operations. Press and hold a note down on the MIDI keyboard, then press a number key down on the Macintosh keypad. The keypad number will tell the computer what note value you wish to enter the pitch to be. This operation will enter the pitch onto the staff. (You need to have a keypad chart to know which numbers equal which note values. Such a chart can be gotten from the MMCL monitor or checked out from Jones Music Library).

As an example, if you want four half notes D-F#-E-D- hold down each pitch on the MIDI keyboard and press the number 7 on the computer keypad for each pitch. The results of this operation when pressing the MIDI keyboard's D-F#-E-D are given below.

In order to enter four parts (STAB) follow the normal procedure using Layers and the TOOLS ICON in order to change the direction of note stems.

If you want to enter a rest simply press the appropriate keypad number without press a MIDI keyboard pitch.
