Music majors at Baldwin-Wallace are fortunate in
that very sophisticated hardware and software aspects of music technology are available
to them
. Listed below are some of the technology items you will be using on a regular
basis.
EMAIL: All B-W students have the ability to
use the college email programs. You should check with the Computer
Center to secure an email addre
ss and password. It is hoped that you will get in the habit of contacting me through email whenever
you are requested to do so as part of class work or when you
find it impossible to contact me personally. My email address
is lhartzel@bw.edu
WWW: Over the past four years the World Wide Web has become a significant
component of the educational environment of most colleges and universities. I have begun to make $
of my classes. It is my
assumption that you will begin to use
the Web page(s) created for your class(es) on a regular basis.
It will be through these pages that I will communicate important
information to you during the semester. Such use of the Web
should make class ti
me more efficient. Click hereto go to my
Current Courses Web Page. The following is an excellent history of the Internet (of which the
Web is a part). If you are interested in learning more about the Internet
this is a good p
lace to start.
MMCL: The Midi-Multimedia Computer Lab is
located in the basement of Merner-Pfeiffer Hall. It is the result
of a $300,000 grant from the Kulas Foundation and
provides
B-W music students an extremely sophisticated MIDI-related computer
lab. Beginning with fall semester 1999-2000 all students in Harmony
classes will be required to use the lab on a regular basis to complete written homework
assignments.
In
addition to the 12 workstations located in the lab there are
four other stations found in Jones Music Library that are connected
to MMCL's laser printer. These stations also have the same basic
software as that found on the MMCL computers. Click here for more information on
MMCL.
BWDEMS: The Baldwin-Wallace Digital Electronic
Music Studio is located in the basement of Kulas Hall. The Studio
is used by students who take "Introduction to Elec
tronic
Music" and those who are doing advanced work in Electronic Music.
This studio can produce professional level
electronic music projects, record them to analog or digital formats
and (if desired) burn them to CD. The lab is also used by stude
nts in B-W's
Broadcasting major and, in conjunction with the Faculty Multi-Media Lab, BWDEMS is used to
create various types of multi-media and Internet-based projects. Click here for more information on BWDEMS.
