THE DALEKS' MASTER PLAN - EPISODE 5

COUNTER PLOT

1.  A CORRIDOR

(Sara Kingdom runs into view.)

SARA:  (calls)  Borkar!  Borkar, where are you.

(Borkar comes running in from the other end of the corridor.)

BORKAR:  Yes?
SARA:  The two fugitives are escaped.  All exits from the main building are to be guarded.

(Borker points his gun at the body of Bret Vyon.)

BORKAR:  That's Bret Vyon!
SARA:  Yes, he's dead.

(Sara says this with a little sadness in her voice.)

SARA:  The others must be killed as well.  They will be shot on sight but aim for the head.

(They part.)

2.  ANOTHER CORRIDOR WITH A DOOR

(The Doctor and Steven run down the corridor and stop by the door.)

DOCTOR:  Where's Brett?
STEVEN:  Right, behind us I think.  Probably dealing with that girl.
DOCTOR:  Oh, irritating man!  Come along in here, quickly.

3.  EXPERIMENT CHAMBER

(This is a room that is completely empty except for a small satellite-like device in the middle of the room.  Mice can be seen in the middle of it.)

STEVEN:  Strange room.
DOCTOR:  Now I wonder what that is?

(They have a look at it)

STEVEN:  There are mice inside.  Funny sort of cage for mice.
DOCTOR:  Yes, it could be some kind of transmitter.  Hmm.
STEVEN:  How will Brett find us?
DOCTOR:  Well I suggest that you stand by that door and if you hear any noise outside it's bound to be him.
STEVEN:  Yes, if he moving fast enough.

(Steven moves to the edge of the room listening for noise while the Doctor has a closer look at the mice.)

DOCTOR:  Mice.  Yes.  Perhaps it is some kind of experiment.

4.  EXPERIMENT CONTROL ROOM

(In this room two scientists - Froyn and Rhynmal.  They are performing final checks before their experiment.)

FROYN:  Are they ready yet?
RHYNMAL:  Pressure count seems to be rising again.
FROYN:  We have to go ahead anyway.  All Continuum readings are perfect.
RHYNMAL:  Wait, just a moment.

(Two security men - Borker and Karlton, the second in command to Mavic Chen, enter the room.)

BORKER:  Have you seen two strangers?
FROYN:  Get out!
BORKER:  We are looking for two men who were heading in this direction.
FROYN:  I don't care who you are looking for.  We are in the middle of a highly complicated experiment - now get out of here!
RHYNMAL:  All right now.  All readings registering normal.
FROYN:  Good.  (to the security men)  Once again, will you get out of here.

(The two security men leave.  Froyn goes back to his console.)

FROYN:  Starting distemunation countdown in ten seconds from now.

(A bleeping noise is heard.)

5.  EXPERIMENT CHAMBER

STEVEN:  I think I just heard someone.

6.  CORRIDOR WITH DOOR

(Sara is sliding up to the door with a gun in her hand.  She opens the door and enters the door.  Behind her we can see Borker.)

SARA:  (oov)  You will stay right where you are, both of you.

(Borker runs off.)

7.  EXPERIMENT CHAMBER

(Sara keeps the Doctor and Steven covered with her gun.)

SARA:  I give you five seconds to hand over that Taranium.
DOCTOR:  Let me speak, please...
SARA:  The Taranium...

(Her face is filled with pain as the room starts to flash with a brilliant light.  We also see that the Doctor's and Steven's faces are filled with pain also.)

8.  CORRIDOR WITH A DOOR

(We see Borker and Karlton rush up to the door.)

BORKER:  Open up!

(They open the door.)

9.  EXPERIMENT CHAMBER

(The chamber is completely empty; not the Doctor, Sara, Steven or the satellite-like device is there.  What is heard is a high-pitched humming noise.)

10.  EXPERIMENT CONTROL ROOM

(Both Froyn and Rhynmal are checking readings from their instruments.)

FROYN:  Time Molecule Absorption.  Planet-side power falling.

(They both touch some controls.)

RHYNMAL:  Projection overlie for zero, zero sigma.  Instruments report perfect distemunation.
FROYN:  Good.

(He crosses to another panel.)

FROYN:  Cut in computer control.

(The noise stops.)

RHYNMAL:  Perfect.  Absolutely perfect!
FROYN:  Just as I thought.

(A light flashes on the panel.)

RHYNMAL:  Someone opened the door.
FROYN:  Hey?

(He dashes to the panel.)

FROYN:  Quick!

(They both leave the room.)

11.  CORRIDOR WITH A DOOR

(Froyn and Rhynmal run down the corridor and enter the room.)

12.  EXPERIMENT ROOM

(Froyn and Rhynmal find the two security men there.)

FROYN:  (angry)  What do you think you are doing?
BORKER:  What is going on in this room?
FROYN:  We have been carrying out a Molecule distemunation.  And if you Space Security people would stop interfering we be able to get along a lot faster.
RHYNMAL:  Looks it was perfect.
BORKER:  You don't understand.
FROYN:  Have you touched anything in this room?
RHYNMAL:  No.
FROYN:  But there were three people in here.  Where are they?

13.  SPACE

(We see the bodies of Steven and Sara moving about in space.  The satellite is going around and around and the faces of the passengers are first filled by nothing and then by great pain as they move faster and faster away from Earth.)

14.  EXPERIMENT CONTROL ROOM

RHYNMAL:  There can't have been.  There was only my mice.  I know.  I set them here myself.
BORKER:  You got to get them back.
FROYN:  Get them back.  But we can't.
BORKER:  What do you mean, you can't.  You must.
FROYN:  You don't seem to understand.  Anyone or anything that was in this room at the time of the experiment is now being transmitted through space.
RHYNMAL:  Yes, my friend.  They are many light years away from Earth by now.  Moving towards a strange planet, in a strange galaxy.  The nature of which we can only guess at.

15. MIRA

(The planet is called Mira.  It is a lot like Kembel with its jungle and wildlife.  The ground is covered by a small blanket of fog and pool of some strange liquid bubbles in certain areas.  We pan across the landscape to show how lonely and jungle-filled it is.)

16.  DALEK CITY CONTROL ROOM, KEMBEL

(The Dalek Supreme enters the room to hear the reports from one of its aides.)

DALEK SUPREME:  Has any message been received from Earth?
DALEK 1:  No.
DALEK SUPREME:  Contract Mavic Chen and ask for a report.  He should be bringing the Taranium Core by this time.
DALEK 1:  I obey.

17.  EXPERIMENT CONTROL ROOM

(Rhynmal and Froyn are trying some controls under the eye of Karlton.)

KARLTON:  How long will it take before you know that your experiment is successful.
FROYN:  We don't know.  Once the instruments reform on the planet Mira, they should start transmitting immediately.
KARLTON:  Would it be wiser to have chosen a nearer planet than Mira?
FROYN:  The whole point was the distance.  We already know that certain small objects can be sent by cellular fragmentation over some short distances.
KARLTON:  And these people arrive safely?
FROYN:  We don't know.  We never tried to transpose people in this way before.
KARLTON:  Why didn't you stop when Space Security came in.
FROYN:  The experiment had already started.  We couldn't stop.
KARLTON:  You're a fool.

(He turns to Borker.)

KARLTON:  Why didn't you make them stop?
BORKER:  There wasn't time.  And we didn't know who these people were.

(Karlton turns back to Froyn.)

KARLTON:  Inform me as soon as you know that your mechanism has reached Mira.
FROYN:  Of course.

(Karlton storms out with Borker following.  Froyn goes back into the centre of the room to find Rhynmal working on the control panel.)

FROYN:  Is there no sign of anything yet?
RHYNMAL:  No, No.  Ah,

(A bleeping sound is heard.)

RHYNMAL:  I think something is coming through.

(Froyn dashes over to the console.)

FROYN:  Hey... yes.

18.  MIRA

(We still pan across the jungle lands of Mira until we come across the Satellite.  It is slightly damaged with one piece of it broken but the mice are in there and are alive.)

19.  GUARDIAN'S OFFICE

(Karlton walks into the room softly.)

KARLTON:  The instruments reassembled successfully and the mice were alive.

(Mavic Chen takes his hands away from his face.)

MAVIC CHEN:  You know that might mean nothing.  You realise of course that the Daleks might just assemble a force and conquer us.  And there would be nothing we can do.
KARLTON:  We still have the power...
MAVIC CHEN:  Where?  They are expecting me now to arrive with the Taranium.
KARLTON:  Calm down.  Mira is not far from Kembel is it?
MAVIC CHEN:  Nearer Kembel then Earth is.  But what help is that?
KARLTON:  Tell the Daleks that you have trapped the fugitives in the Cellular Projector and sent them to Mira on purpose.
MAVIC CHEN:  You're mad!
KARLTON:  Am I?  It was a safety measure.  Unwelcome attention was being paid to the fugitives so you send them to Mira on purpose.

(Mavic Chen sees the logic in this.)

MAVIC CHEN:  Ahh, we could attribute it to a too efficient security system.  It'll show concludingly that I am completely allied to the Daleks.  They would trust us... with more.
KARLTON:  Exactly.
MAVIC CHEN:  Wait.  How do we know that the Taranium wasn't destroyed on the way.
KARLTON:  We don't.
MAVIC CHEN:  But...
KARLTON:  No buts.  The only reason that you as Guardian of the Solar System was admitted to the Universal Council was because of our superior knowledge of mineralogy.  Without us they cannot get Taranium.
MAVIC CHEN:  Without me, their plan cannot completely work.  Without me, they are nothing.  NOTHING!!!!

(He throws open his arms.)

MAVIC CHEN:  When I am next to the Daleks, only they stand between me and the highest position in the universe.  Then would be the time for me to take complete control.

(He sees that Karlton is watching him.)

MAVIC CHEN:  You are a fortunate man, Karlton.  You will have a high place in galactic history.

(He walks out with his usual arrogance.)

KARLTON:  The highest... next to you.

20.  MIRA

(We pan down some trees and we come to the Doctor.  His eyes open and he focuses on where he is.  He checks all over his body for any bruises and suchlike before standing up.  He next checks his hand as if he isn't sure what has happened to him and next checks in his pocket for the Taranium Core.  Luckily it is still in there and he brings it out to have a look at it.  He thinks on what has just happened.)

DOCTOR:  The mice couldn't have done that.

(He moves on.)

21.  ANOTHER PART OF THE JUNGLE

(Nearby, Sara is just coming round.  She raises her arms to try and get some feeling back into them.  Next to her is Steven.  He comes round more quickly.  He stands up, and after seeing Sara's still mostly-unconscious body he crosses over to it and takes her blaster from her.  He attempts to wake her up properly but fails.)

22.  JUNGLE

(The Doctor has found the mice and is checking them over.)

DOCTOR:  Most extraordinary.

(He goes behind some jungle and hears some noises.  He tries calling out.)

DOCTOR:  Steven?  Steven, my boy, where are you?

23.  JUNGLE FLOOR

(On the ground we can see some pawprints being made but we can't see who or what is making them.  It seems that it is following the Doctor for some reason.)

24.  ANOTHER PART OF THE JUNGLE

(Steven is holding the blaster while looking at Sara's body.)

STEVEN:  (calls)  Doctor!

(The Doctor appears from the jungle.)

STEVEN:  Doctor.
DOCTOR:  All right, all right, all right.
STEVEN:  What's going on?  Where are we?  What on Earth happened?
DOCTOR:  Calm down, calm down.  I don't know where we are.  We're safe and sound that's the main thing.

(He sees Sara.)

DOCTOR:  Oh, I suppose she had to come along, hey.
STEVEN:  What happened?  All I know is she is about to shoot us and there was this fantastic noise.
DOCTOR:  Yes, I very glad that you took that gun away from her.

(Sara groans.)

DOCTOR:  She all right?
STEVEN:  She hasn't come round yet.

(Sara is opening her eyes.)

DOCTOR:  Pull yourself together, Madam.  I want to ask you some few questions.
(to Steven)  Take a good look round, dear boy.  And find a place to hide.  We've got a lot to sort out.

(Sara sits up and sees who is with her while Steven moves away.)

SARA:  You!  The traitors!
DOCTOR:  You feel cold.  Get on your feet.

(He helps Sara to her feet.)

DOCTOR:  You're lucky to be alive.  Now you come with me, and don't try any tricks.  Come along.

(He puts his arms around Sara's and helps to steady her walk.)

25.  DALEK CITY CONTROL ROOM, KEMBEL

DALEK 1:  The pursuit ship reports that they have landed on the planet Mira.
DALEK SUPREME:  Have they located the fugitives?
DALEK 1:  The detectors register strong readings.
DALEK SUPREME:  When the fugitives have been captured, report at once.
DALEK 1:  I obey.

26.  JUNGLE

(Sara and Steven are now arguing.)

STEVEN:  Feeling better?
SARA:  I'll be a lot better when we get out of this place.
DOCTOR:  Getting away from this place presents quite a problem.
SARA:  Where are we?
DOCTOR:  At the moment, I haven't got the faintest idea.
SARA:  Oh!  How did we get here?
DOCTOR:  Cellular distemunation.
SARA:  Cellular what?
DOCTOR:  To put it in lay language, Cellular distemunation means that our bodies were broken up by some purpose or other, shot through into the fourth dimension and at a given point reassembled again on this planet.
STEVEN:  That's fantastic.
SARA:  Impossible.
DOCTOR:  Fantastic it may be my boy, but impossible no.  For that is precisely what's happened.
STEVEN:  Yes, but Doctor what about that transmitter thing?  You know the one with the mice in it.
DOCTOR:  Yes, that came along too and I believe that it is sending a signal to Earth.  That would mean that Mavic Chen would know precisely where we are.  Therefore, the Daleks will attack once again.

27.  SATELLITE

(The Daleks have found the mice and are wondering what do about them.)

DALEK 1:  Detector indicates beings at close range.
DALEK 2:  An alien device.  There are small white creatures inside.  They may be hostile.
DALEK 1:  It is sending out signals.
DALEK 2:  It may belong to the fugitives and may register our presence here.
DALEK 1:  Destroy it.

(They move away and then blast it.  The mice die and it stops bleeping.)

DALEK 1:  Detectors still registers being is very close.

(They turn and have a look around.)

DALEK 2:  I can see nothing.
DALEK 1:  There is a being near us.  Fire at any movement.

(The leaves near the Daleks start to move and obeying orders, the Daleks fire.  There is a roar and the leaves stop moving.)

DALEK 2:  The beings appear to be invisible.  We must continue the search for the fugitives.  Keep constant detector readings.  Open fire when it registers close proximity.
DALEK 1:  I obey.

(They move on.)

28.  EXPERIMENT CONTROL ROOM

(Froyn is not getting any more signals from Mira and is being watched by an impatient Karlton.)

FROYN:  I don't understand it.  It was giving off a powerful signal and then nothing.
RHYNMAL:  A technical fault?
FROYN:  It couldn't be, just like that.
RHYNMAL:  These criminals must have damaged it.
FROYN:  Why didn't they do it when they first arrived?
KARLTON:  Perhaps they have only just found it.  You are certain that there are no natural beings on Mira?
FROYN:  Not to our knowledge.  Our probes haven't shown any.
RHYNMAL:  That's why we sent the mice.  I was hoping that they would...  Oh dear.  Perhaps we should send some more mice.
KARLTON:  No.  Send nothing further to Mira.  Inform me if you get any form of contact.  In the meantime send no further matter to that planet.

29.  JUNGLE

(The Doctor, alone, moves forward and he hears a noise.  With his walking stick up he moves slowly forward when suddenly the leaves near him start to move.  The Doctor attacks whatever is there with his stick and with a roar the creature backs off.)

DOCTOR:  The planet Mira.

30.  MORE JUNGLE

STEVEN:  But he was the one person who could have warned Earth.
SARA:  So you say.
STEVEN:  You killed Brett!  You shot him down.
SARA:  He was a traitor.  Between the three of you, you have stolen the Taranium, the most valuable mineral in the universe.  It is needed desperately to spread the peace that was advancing, founded in the solar system, to reach the whole galaxy.
STEVEN:  What was the Taranium going to do?
SARA:  How should I know?  I had my orders.
STEVEN:  (disgusted)  Your orders!  Even though that it meant killing one of your own people, you obeyed them blindly, without question!
SARA:  One does not question the orders of the Guardian.
STEVEN:  Oh you didn't stop to think how it came to happen.  That a space security agent, one of your own people, was a traitor.
SARA:  No!
STEVEN:  You didn't give him a chance.  You couldn't question Chen and you wouldn't question Brett.
SARA:  Look, what do you want me to say?  That I believe your fantastic story?
STEVEN:  It's true.
SARA:  (tearfully)  It mustn't be.

(The Doctor appears.)

DOCTOR:  I'm afraid it is, my dear.
STEVEN:  (horribly)  But Bret had to be killed.
SARA:  Shut up!  Bret Vyon was my brother.

(She runs off.  Steven starts to follow her but the Doctor stops him.)

DOCTOR:  Leave her, my boy.  There's nothing we can do.  She finally believes us.

(With a cry, Sara runs back.)

SARA:  Something... touched me.

(Steven takes the blaster and starts to move forward.)

DOCTOR:  Steven!

(Steven comes back.)

DOCTOR:  Now listen to me, both of you.  This is the planet Mira.  And the only beings on here are the Visians.  We can't see them but they are very vicious.  We must try to get away from here as soon as possible.
SARA:  But how?
DOCTOR:  I don't know yet.

(Steven goes up a small hill and with the others following him sees a large bunch of leaves moving and smoke rising from the ground.)

STEVEN:  Is that them?
DOCTOR:  And it appears we're trapped!

31.  GUARDIANS' OFFICE

(Karlton is back with Mavic Chen.)

KARLTON:  I am certain that the Daleks have already reached Mira.
MAVIC CHEN:  That means I must return to Kembel at once.
KARLTON:  Of course, everything is arranged.
MAVIC CHEN:  Good.

(He drops the pen that he was using.)

MAVIC CHEN:  It's look like the Daleks have believed my story.  I must be there before the Taranium is bought back.
KARLTON:  If it is?
MAVIC CHEN:  Wait until you hear from me then take your party to Venus.  Whatever happens we shall defeat the Daleks.  We should be able to destroy Kembel with help from the rest of the solar system.
KARLTON:  But that would mean mastery of only this galaxy.

(Mavic Chen raises his eyes heavenwards.)

MAVIC CHEN:  But a start, Karlton, a start.

32.  JUNGLE

DOCTOR:  I don't think that they have fathomed us out yet.
STEVEN:  Yes, but when we beat our way through, we've got to stick together.
DOCTOR:  And you remember my boy, aim high, these Visians are eight feet tall.

(The monsters start to move forward but blasts from a Dalek kills them.)

STEVEN:  Daleks!
SARA:  You're right Doctor, they've come.

(The Dalek covers them.)

DALEK:  You are surrounded.  You will come with us.
DOCTOR:  I'm afraid, my friends, that the Daleks have won.
