China
We received our referral on October 2, 2002 - our wedding anniversary!
Only FOUR WEEKS later, we were on a plane headed to Beijing. We stayed just a day and a half touring Beijing, then headed to Chongqing, near the center of China, to meet Chloe. We arrived on Monday night and met the babies Tuesday morning, November 6.
We were lucky to be able to visit the orphanage in Fuling, on the Yangtze River. The babies had been well cared for and the director, Mme. Yang, was gracious and professional. We saw babies waiting for their parents. All the babies drank formula which included some scoops of very sweet rice cereal. Chloe was never fussy about her formula. She even drank a cold bottle of formula! After the first day, Chloe was pretty happy to be with Mom and Dad...so happy in fact that she didn't want to be put down - ever! For four days we held her when she was awake and asleep. But after returning from our visit to Fuling, Chloe seemed to know we weren't going anywhere and was content to play on the bed. Her sleeping schedule - and ours - was erratic. But now that we are home, she takes two naps a day and usually sleeps through the night. If she is having a bad night, she is allowed to sleep in our bed - where she kicks mom all night and tends to wake up to play every so often.
Back in China, we stayed just a few more days in Chongqing and then headed to Guangzhou where we would continue the paperwork we needed to return to the US. We really liked Guangzhou - very warm, quiet, fun shopping and good food! Chloe had a simple medical check. She weighed 15 lbs. She had her VISA photo taken and at the American Embassy, all babies were sworn in as Citizens!
We returned to the US November 16 and were met by the whole gang at the airport!
Christmas was more fun than we could imagine! We had great professional photos taken of Chloe for the holidays and her first birthday.
We readopted Chloe through Lorain County Probate Court on January 6.
Chloe was baptised Chloe De Chen Camille Geither on January 12.
Chloe celebrated her first birthday January 24.
Today, Chloe has gained lots of weight. She is just over 18 lbs. She STILL has only TWO teeth but loves to eat by herself. She loves carrots and cheerios.
