| As part of its academic mission, the ILR plans a number of interesting and stimulating trips throughout the year. These may be one-day tours, excursions lasting two or three days, and vacations of one or two weeks in duration. Experienced tour guides accompany the travelers and the longer excursions may include classes before or during the trip as well as reading lists prepared for our lifelong learners. Cultural and informative activities, such as theater attendance, museum visits, and side trips to historical sites are included in order to enhance the educational experience. Announcements for these trips are mailed to ILR members well in advance. These tours are filled on a first-come, first serve basis with priority given to ILR members. Some of the trips the ILR has made in the past have included two week tours of England, Nova Scotia, and Scotland/Ireland. Shorter visits have been made to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, the Shaw Festival in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Toronto, Nashville, Mackinac Island, Williamsburg/Washington D.C., Cape Cod/Boston, and New York City/Philadelphia/West Point. There have also been day trips to the Garfield Homestead, the covered Bridges in Amish Country, and the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland. Cultural experiences have included the Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Pops, the Band of the Grenadier Guards, and the Akron Dinner Theater. Watch for more trips as they are planned and remember that membership is required for participation in all ILR events.
