DATA: [Gottfried Silbermann's new organ for the Dresden Frauenkirche was inaugurated in 1736 and Bach, visiting from Leipzig at the end of the year, had an opportunity to play it in a two-hour recital. The instrument was much restored and rebuilt over the following two centuries and finally, in the Allied bombing campaign of 1945, destroyed. Bach's relations with Silbermann and with the city of Dresden are surveyed.]
